Tent Digital is the only annual showcase for digital creatives and digitally enabled design during the London Design Festival and was described as a highlight of the Festival in 2009. With increasing integration of technology in our lives, this industry is now one of the most innovative fields of design. The work on display is thoroughly interactive; responding to and engaging with the audience in beautiful and sometimes amazing ways. Participants are sourced global through a call for entries within the interaction design and augmented reality fields. Tent designers, companies or collectives are selected by the Tent Digital team and are awarded a space in Tent Digital’s ex-industrial, now exhibition space at the Old Truman Brewery alongside Tent London. Whilst providing an awesome interactive visitor experience (described as containing all the best bits of the Science Museum in 2009) the aim of Tent Digital is to provide those selected access to an audience of commissioners, specifiers, producers and design savvy public. This year ADS4 has been exploring the concept of IMMORTALITY, speculating on the consequences of a society increasingly in denial of death: Youth, beauty, the media and celebrity fuel our desires, new technologies dazzle us with progress and hope; but in a future of increasing complexity, contradiction and dilemma, how might our desire for immortality manifest? Buying a star, creating a celebrity perfume and setting up a charity in your own name have become normal in the world of legacy creation. What will the architectural consequences be? ADS4 questions who the key characters will be in the quest for immortality, who are our new Gods, how will they compete and what will be the pay-off? + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + IMMORTALITY INTERIM SHOW [ Feburary 2010 ]

SHOW RCA is the culmination of Royal College of Art postgraduate students’ studio work and research. A series of four individual exhibitions of contemporary work, it offers a glimpse into the ideas factory of the College itself as well as an opportunity to open our doors to the public. It is a public testing of research ideas and a calling card on behalf of all these talented exhibitors who are in the process of launching themselves into their various professional worlds. This year Architecture Design Unit 4 showcased their "WHAT IF?" films; a series of shorts exploring possilble futures based upon current foibles. My own film, "The Radiance Resort" was exhibited, along with a model of Re[toxic]treat. The RCA Interim Show is a sneak peak into the work of current students of the Royal College of Art as it happens. It is a collection of 4 shows that show works in progress from all departments. Architecture Design Unit 4 exhibited a series of preliminary designs for possible futures. My design, for a future in which radiation is accepted as a new holistic medicine, was a glowing curtain structure suspended around a nuclear reactor. The model used light to simulate how radiation might be manipulated to create a varied landscape of gamma radiation for medicinal purposes.
